Claudia Ramsamy, Willows’ very own home manager, has been shortlisted for The Social Care Covid Hero Award at this year’s Great British Care Awards.

She now faces a tough interview with the judging panel next month with the final results to be announced at a gala dinner in April 2021.

Claudia is a well-known and much-loved figure at the home. She started as a care assistant five years ago, progressing through various roles before her promotion to trainee home manager in March 2020.

Her first months as manager have been extremely challenging, thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, and Claudia has done everything she can to protect her vulnerable residents.

Willows avoided getting the virus during the primary period of March to May, largely because of Claudia’s careful management, attention to hygiene and infection control protocols and insistence on using Canford Healthcare staff rather than agency workers.

During lockdown Canford Healthcare ran a scheme to celebrate individuals who displayed outstanding effort and dedication. Claudia received many nominations and some very heart-warming praise from her colleagues.

Claudia says: “It is such an honour to be shortlisted for The Covid Social Hero Award, but I was really only doing my job! I would also say the award belongs to all of us at Willows because everyone worked so hard and pulled together as one big team. Our priority is, and has always been, to protect our residents.”
