Mayflower Care Home was delighted to be used as a case study for ellenor Hospice’s website recently. The two organisations often collaborate and ellenor wanted to focus on the home’s dementia care in particular.

For those of you who don’t know, ellenor is a charity that supports patients with life-limiting illnesses, both in their homes and in the hospice’s inpatient and outpatient wards in Northfleet. With its dedicated palliative nurses and clinicians, ellenor also supports, trains and collaborates with other care homes and hospices in the surrounding areas, including Mayflower.

“It’s a two-way process and we support and help each other. Mayflower has the knowledge of dementia and we work hard to ensure that we have people’s wishes fully documented up front, while ellenor provides the expertise and extra reassurance around the end-of-life care,” says Nicola Bundock, our home manager.

Ellenor’s support continued throughout the pandemic, as recommended by the local NHS Clinical Commissioning Group, which was so incredibly reassuring for Mayflower’s staff, residents and their families.

“Just having ellenor come in and assist us, and do face-to-face training with the staff was amazing, especially when other training stopped temporarily because of the situation,” adds Nicola.
