Day at the Races

Residents at Tunbridge Wells have been having fun with a whole hour of improvised horse racing.

Residents pick a famous horse and then wear the matching coloured jockey cap. The aim of the game is to get across the lounge the quickest, by rolling the highest number of the dice. There are prizes up for grabs for 1st, 2nd and 3rd position.

The winners of each race then go into a final head to head competition, with the overall winner, resident Brian Austen claiming the top prize!

Grosvenor Unit

The Grosvenor unit at Tunbridge Wells has been transformed, with four new display areas for the dementia residents. It includes two corner shops complete with pre decimalisation till and replica every day products from 50’s onwards.

These displays promote mental stimulation from a period in the residents lives that are most prevalent to them. With many kinds of dementia, it is the long-term memory that comes to the fore and the displays are there to help relieve some of the anxieties that also come with dementia. The new café area which was created for some of our residents who find other areas a little too noisy, now have a quieter area of the unit to enjoy and it is already being used by these residents when it comes to meal times.

This stunning castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn and with its beautiful gardens and world famous maze, it was a lovely place to spend the day.

The weather was very hot with clear blue skies so ice creams were certainly the order of the day!
