Visiting the home

New tier system and how this affects our homes

As of 17 October 2020, London and parts of Essex moved from tier 1 (medium alert) to tier 2 (high alert) restrictions. Please see below how this affects visiting arrangements for your relative’s particular home.

Tier 1

Relatives of our residents in homes that are currently in tier 1 can continue to visit their loved ones, subject to our usual visiting policy. However, as government guidelines have moved in favour of outside visiting and with the onset of winter, we envisage that we will have to make alternative arrangements. Your home will advise you of any changes as they occur. We will continue to facilitate contact with relatives via regular Skype and video calling.

If you live in tier 2, then we must ask you not to visit your relative, at least until your area’s status has reverted to tier 1. You can check this via the government’s postcode tracker.

Tier 2

If your relative is in a home that falls within tier 2, we regret that we cannot accept any visitors unless your relative is at end of life. While the area is designated as an increased risk, we must abide by the rules and restrictions set by the government. We will, of course, continue to facilitate contact between you and your loved one via regular Skype and video calling.

End-of-life visits

If a resident is at end of life relatives (who live in any tier) may visit by appointment only, but we will have to apply enhanced hygiene protocols throughout the visit. Where this applies, the home manager will be in touch with you on an individual basis.

Keeping you updated

We have written to relatives of residents at all our homes to advise them of the visiting arrangements for their particular home. We regret that in some cases relatives are not currently allowed to visit. We hope that you understand that we must comply with government regulations and put the safety of our vulnerable residents first. As local conditions alter, we will do our best to keep you updated on any changes that affect ours homes and your loved ones as quickly as we can.
