Claudia Ramsamy, Registered Manager, Mayflower Care Home

Claudia Ramsamy, manager of Mayflower Care Home and employee of our parent company Canford Healthcare since 2014, has so far had an inspiring journey in the care sector. This is a testament to her dedication, resilience and a passion for making a difference.

Beginning as a care assistant almost ten years ago at Willows Care Home, our sister nursing home in Romford, Claudia worked her way up through the roles to become manager, earning recognition and industry awards a plenty along the way. Most recently, she was a finalist in the Inspirational Care Home Manager category at the 2024 Stars of Social Care Awards.

Promoted to manager shortly before the pandemic, Claudia’s courageous leadership and meticulous attention to hygiene ensured the safety and wellbeing of her residents and staff. Her efforts during this challenging time earned her the East of England Great British Care Awards’ Social Care Covid Hero Award in 2020, solidifying her reputation as a dynamic leader in the care sector. She demonstrated that strong leadership not only navigates crises but also inspires teams to deliver exceptional care.

For Claudia, creating a home-like environment for residents has always been a priority. “A typical day here should be like a typical day for anyone at home,” she explains. This philosophy drives her efforts to honour residents’ routines and individuality, ensuring that every resident feels valued and at ease.

Her track record, in terms of both the quality of care and the standard of cleanliness and tidiness achieved at Willows, was exemplary. The home team regularly impressed inspectors during local authority infection control audits, and last December received a Chief Nursing Silver Award for its outstanding contribution to Health and Social Care.

While managing her demanding roles, Claudia has continued to pursue professional development with unwavering commitment. She completed her Level 5 in Health and Social Care while working as quality and training manager and acting as deputy manager. Her drive didn’t stop there – she achieved a Level 7 qualification in Human Resources during her first year as home manager, all while steering the home through the pandemic!

Claudia has also this year become a judge for the Great British Care Awards. With other industry experts she assessed entries in different categories, including Activity Organiser or the Outstanding Contribution to Social Care, all across the UK, from the south east to Wales and up to Scotland.

“It was an amazing experience,” she says. “I heard so many great stories and was touched by the commitment of providers and individuals. I enjoyed seeing how they were going above and beyond to support the people they were looking after. I felt privileged to meet them and be able to congratulate them personally.”
